During Melina’s time at university, she was not only Editor of the University of Leicester's student newspaper, Ripple, a forty page fortnightly newspaper employing twenty staff, she was also a columnist and regular contributor for the BBC. In 2011, she gained her NCTJ Journalism Qualification from News Associates in Wimbledon, and have since written for many different publications including Tennishead Magazine, The Sabotage Times, Miami Tennis News, Tennis Grandstand and the BBC. She has covered events such as the US Open, the Queens Club tournament, the Hurlingham pre Wimbledon event, the Royal Albert Hall Champions tennis tour event and many others, reporting on matches and interviewing celebrities. Melina is available for freelance writing, editing and copy writing opportunities.
Director and owner of SW19 Members Club, Website & Magazine
SW19 Members Club Magazine and website started off as a humble WordPress blog, which became heavily followed by tennis enthusiasts on Twitter. The blog then expanded to become the SW19 Members Club website. This community and lifestyle website for tennis professionals around the world led to the launch of a digital interactive magazine on iTunes.
By creating a mobile app, Melina’s goal was to make the SW19 Members Club Magazine the most popular tennis magazine in the world, allowing tennis professionals across the globe to share their passion for the game in an interactive and forward-thinking format. It was indeed shared by Andy Murray on his Facebook page during his historic first Wimbledon win and reached a huge world wide audience of tennis fans and professionals.
Tennis has become incredibly popular; celebrities like Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova bring a certain glamour and appeal to the sport. The magazine and website envisioned tennis as a lifestyle, with content ranging from on and off-court style, tournament social guides, Twitter gossip, to quality product and psychology advice from renowned professionals in the tennis world. From gaining access to the US Open, to interviews with tennis' elite players, the magazine and website was a fantastic project from start to finish.
